So Very Grateful for You

Scrapbook Layout created for Scrapbook Nerd  - SO VERY GRATEFUL FOR YOU -

Hi there!

It is Gratitude week at Scrapbook Nerd, and i used this opportunity to create a seasonal layout using a non- autumnal paper collection.   The secret to mixing the collection and theme together is to play with mixed media to bring some of those warm tones to your page.

A little bit of Vicki Boutin Art crayons were mixed to create what i would call gold tones with out the shine.  These were used as watercolors to create the soft background behind the cut outs in the layout.   A bit of Heidi Swapp gold color shine was then added to bring the shimmer and shine of the season to the page.

To create this page, I pulled a few cut files from Handipaper, and used Kaisercraft's Bloom collection to back the flowers and leaves in them.  To warm up the tones in the page, i also used the Fleur collection from Kaisercraft to back all the leaves in the branches of the cut out.

To accent all the colors in the page, and to bring a bit more of the textures of fall, a frame of woodgrain paper was used as strips at the side on the layout and in some of the clusters of this page.  Here is the final layout:

It was so easy to combine a few paper collections, with the beautiful cut files into this page,  I love how easy it was to put together, the following video will show you a bit of the process behind the project:

Remember to stop by Scrapbook Nerd to check all the materials used in this page, and you can always contact me if you have questions on how all this came together.

Best Ever

Scrapbook Layout created for Scrapbook Nerd (Silhouette Savvy Series - Stretch your Cuts)  -  Best Ever-

a close up of the layout.

Hello everyone,

For today's blog post at Scrapbook Nerd, I  am showing a small tutorial on how to use the left over pieces of a cut-out.  Here is the link to the tutorial:  http://scrapbooknerd.com/?p=4947
I am always looking for inspiration for my layouts.  After creating a cut-out for one of the previous layouts, i realized that the negative side of the cut could be used as an interesting background for a new layout.

I used the cut out as a guide to transfer the small pieces onto watercolor paper, and started working on creating a new background for this project.  Here is a small video on how the background was put together after being transferred.

Since the background give opportunity to color and texture, I used a few color shine inks to create a mixed media effect.

The background of the layout.

Once the background was dried, I used a  paper piercing tool to create a stitching guide around the heart.

I tried to stay simple with the design, so that the background and the picture will be showcased.

A simple large title works well on this page, as a ways to balance the design.

To finish the page, I added small details around the page, and a few lines of journal  at the bottom of the heart.  Here is the final layout:

I love it (truly love it!).   For more information, on how the cuts were transfer, please visit the Scrapbook Nerd blog.  As always, let me know if you have any questions on how this page came together.

See you tomorrow!

Card sketch for Scrapbook Nerd's Creative Summer Camp 2016

Hello everyone!

I hope you all are enjoying the weekend.  It is a long weekend here in Toronto, since we are celebrating Canada's Day on July 1st.   WIth all this time available, I have been putting it to good use working on my assigments for August, and joining in the challenges over at http://scrapbooknerd.com/ creative On-line summer camp.

The first challenge was to create a layout following a given sketch.  I chose to follow the card sketch by creating a mixed media background.

Using the new Everyday Essentials cut file from  The Cut Shoppe,  I cut different size circles and backed the cut out using papers from Pink Paislee's Fancy Free collection.  They were attached to the page following the direction of the sketch.

I did not deviate much from the sketch, and added my picture, title and ephemera cluster in the place were the sentiment would have been located.

I added a few more details, date and journal lines before calling the page finished.   Here is the completed layout.

I really like how the page turned out, and how easy it came together once I followed the sketch.

IF you want more information on the On-line Creative Summer Camp, follow this link Scrapbook Nerd ;  all information is on the forum, and in their friends and family page on Facebook

Till next time,

Happy craftin'!!

Sweet

Scrapbook Layout  - Sweet -

a sneak peak of the layout

Hello all!

it is no secret, I love a good cut file and so does my Cameo.  Fortunately the Cut Shoppe  design exclusive  cut files for Scrapbook Nerd (I happen to design for both companies, so major YAY!!)...  For the summer, a new cut file called Camp Glamp is available in the www.scrapbooknerd.com store,  THEY ARE FREE, so  go and get your copy.

In addition, we over at Scrapbook Nerd, have started a new series on how to use the Silhouette products and the software.  So, hop onto the blog (http://scrapbooknerd.com/)  to see my first attempt at a video  (I rather enjoy photography, but my IT guy -i.e. my son- has been hired as a producer) about the basics of using a cutfile.

For this project I only used the pinwheel element of the cutfile.  I cut two of this  pieces of the same dimensions, and backed the cut-outs using MME On Trend2 papers.

I used the sewing machine to stitch in each triangle to the cut-out

I wanted to add some color to the background, so I used some Heidi Swapp color shine to create a water color effect on the 11x11 in. mat.

lots of ink droplets on the background.

The two cut-outs were attached along the diagonal line of the mat, and the picture was placed at the intersection of the two cut-outs.

The title and all embelishment come from the On Trend2 collection

I added my journal in one of the triangles of the top cut-out, and chose not to trim the cut-out to fit within the page, instead i opted to keep it overlapping the layout.

a close up to the  top of the layout.

Finally I matted the layout on top of  a paper from the same collection, and added some enamel dots to the layout.  Here is the final look:

The paper collection is beautiful, and works perfecty with the cut-file

I hope you enjoy the layout, and  if you want to obtain a copy of the cutfile here is the website link: http://scrapbooknerd.com/xencart/index.php?main_page=products_new

As always feel free to contact me with any questions.

Take care!!

Just Smile

A Scrapbook Layout created for Scrapbook Nerd  - Just Smile -

the layout in construction...

Hello there,

It is my reveal week for this month at Scrapbook Nerd (I love Barb and Joy, the owners of the store).  For this layout, i wanted to showcase some of Amy Tangerine's Better Together collection;  the papers are lovely and vibrant, the colors are so appealing to both boys and girls, and my favorite there is lots of watercolor on the designs.

The background for the Layout.

My process for creating  layouts is a bit unusual, as I often start with the backgrounds or titles, and then pick my picture.  For this layout, the contrast and combo of this two papers was beautiful, so i used Heidi Swapp's color shine to create a watercolor background on a 11x11 in. gessoed piece of white cardstock.  I then cut two  big L shaped strips of the papers (about 2 in) and glued them together to form a square,  Using some machine stitching, the watercolor background was attached to the mat.

the layout's title

The next step was to create a title, for this a cut file from the silhouette store was used.  I set the phrase to perforate, and then added an offset and make the cut around the perforated edges.  I chose two of  the colors of the triangle paper to hand stitch the words on the phrase.

the picture details on the layout.

For this layout, I chose to use some of  the pictures from a recent meltdown my nephew experienced at home.  It didn't help I kept telling him to just smile for the camera, and he just kept crying louder each time.  I printed 4 of the pictures to fit 2x2 in. each.   They were matted on white cardstock and layered with the patterned paper from the borders.  Once attached on the layout, pieces of washi tape from the collection was added as a layer under the picture cluster.  All the embelishments are from the sticker sheet and rub on from the same  collection, and a few add-ons from Pink Fresh Studio's Felicity collection...

the finished layout

After attaching all the pieces, I added my journal lines in the space created between the two words.
I love the ending result.

Till next time,

Happy Scrapping!
