SUNDAY SKETCH - Citrus Twist Kits

Hello everyone!
Nathalie here with the last sketch on June... Tomorrow a new kit will be revealed (and it is a beauty!), but before we get new goodies, let me show you how i made the most of my kits using this week's sketch as inspiration.  Here is this week's sketch:

It is a rather fun sketch, as soon as i saw it all i could think of was a grid  of some sort.   First i decided to use the sketch with the left over pieces from my Around Here  Life Crafted Kit in my Life Crafted album:

For this layout, i decided to divide the sketch in  half and follow it as close as i could.  Since the pictures are in color, i decided to chose rather neutral papers for the layers behind them.

The secret to balance the sketch was to keep everything at the same level/border.  So, once i had the limits marked, i used the typewriter to add my lines of journal, and then glued the layers in place.   I added the extra tag above the small strip of paper at the bottom of the picture to help balance the page.

I followed the sketch for the other side of the layout, but added a few things just so that it helped me tell the story of the pictures.   All the gorgeous ephemera pieces about "creatives" was perfect for this side, so i just added them to the clusters and then stamped some sentiments from some of this month's Stamp sets.   Love how easy it came together, but i tried the same sketch with the add-on kit for a 12x12 layout.

I wanted all those pastel colors in the Add on kit to create this page about my daughter's first horse-riding adventure.

I started with creating the layers behind the picture using all the papers from the add on kit.  However the bottom layer of the pictures is one of the large Alpha pieces (Maggie Holmes Sunny Days collection) as they had a vibrant and solid look to them.

To bring the grid look of the sketch to the page, i decided to mount my layers on a piece of vellum.  This helped with limiting the space for the layout, and made layering the papers much easier (a little chipboard and foam adhesive help to create the soft shadow behind the layers).

I wanted to keep the soft look of the page, so instead of adding those paper strips to the corners of the page, my  choice was to create a small shaker pocket.  For this, i simply used a ruler and penciled the rectangles, then hand stitched the rectangles and fill them with sequins.

To finish the page, I used one of the ephemera pieces from the Around Here kit in combination with the stickers from the add on kit, added a few gold ink splatters, and then added my lines of journal with gold ink (and smudge a bit of it with my hand, too).

Just love how these turned out using the sketch as the starting point for the layouts.    If you have questions on how these came together, please do not hesitate to contact me!

SUNSHINE ON MY MIND - Just Nick Studio

Hi there!
Nathalie with you today. In case you haven't visited the JustNick store lately, then you have missed the new TN cut files that Nicole has created. I am a TN lover, it is my most favorite way to document my everyday, and i couldn't be happier to use them in my Family album.

For this entry, i used the new -these will be available in the next few days- Sunshine On My Mind and TN Insert 3 to create this entry.

I size the Sunshine On My Mind cut file so that it fit inside a 4.25x8.25 in rectangle, and set the cut file to cut from white cardstock. I used Heidi Swapp's Color Fresh collection to back the cut out, and then used a paper piercing tool to create the stitching guide. A bit of hand stitching and some simple stickers complete the page. This was then glued to a 5x8.25 in paper (this is the size of my Citrus Twist Kits Life Crafted album/tn) and set on the album.

For the other side of the layout, i used the TN Insert 3 to create the cut out from white cardstock. My choice was to back the circle images with papers that match those on the title page, which meant that i would follow the color order and location of each paper.

The entire page was then backed with a paper from the Heidi Swapp Color Fresh collection, and then a few embellishments were added in a color blocking manner along the vertical line of the page.

I love how this turned out, maybe caused i am biased to the format and size, but TNs are a great format for many different types of documenting. Now add the new Just Nick studio designs, and it just perfection. Remember to check these cut files and the new designs always being added to the store. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Technique Tuesday & WOW! Embossing Powder Blog Hop

No photo description available.

Hi there!
Welcome to the Day Two of the Celebrate Summer with Technique Tuesday and WOW! blog hop and giveaway! You must be arriving from Sidnie's blog ( if you skipped a stop, you can start the loop here or check the bottom of the post for a list of all the hop participants).

I am so happy to be part of today's celebrations with all these super talented ladies (like, how awesome are their cards!). I love how each is starting their summer with their lovely projects, so i decided to join them with an entry to my Family Album (Life Crafted Album from Citrus Twist Kits).

What is Summer without ice cream? Well, my family happens to be ice-cream lovers (not me!) so, i pulled a few pictures of a them ( a few days ago) to create this layout.

I started by using the WOW Rose Glint and Gold Pearl powder to heat embossed the ice cream treats from the Memory Keepers Studio Sweet Summertime Stamp set. Each image was then detailed with watercolors, and set to dry completely.

Once the images dried completely, a fine brush was used to add a coat of embossing liquid to the images in order to detail them. Here i used a combination of WOW Metalline Himalayan Musk embossing powder, Taffeta Pink Embossing Glitter and Gold Pearl embossing powder to add details and that extra sparkle to the layout.

The layout background was created using papers from Echo Park's Best Summer Ever collection. For the right side of the layout, i used the embossed Sweet Summertime images to create clusters around the picture. Here a small label was created using the Essential Stitched Label Crafting dies; this was placed at the bottom cluster so that it can hold the lines of journal.

For the left side of the page, i decided to add three smaller pictures of my family and then create a large cluster/line of the embossed images to the left side of the page. I placed the title on the center photo; for this i used the Cool and Sweet Word Crafting Dies to cut a few words from white cardstock. These were stacked together to add dimension to each word, and then embossed with the WOW Pink Tafetta and Black Twinkle embossing glitter. The word "Treat" from the Sweet Summertime stamp set was then embossed using WOW Rose Glint embossing powder to complete the title.

I love how the WOW Embossing Powders bring the perfect sparkle and detail to the Sweet Summertime images and Cool and Sweet Word Crafting dies in this page. I hope this inspires you to check all the embossing powders and of course stamps and dies and combine them in your next project, and now let's check the fun part of this blog hop.
