Enjoy The Moment

Scrapbook Layout created for Vicki Boutin DT  -  ENJOY THE MOMENT  -

Hello Everyone!
Nathalie with you today with a new layout that combines clean lines, with a bit of inky mess in a very masculine way!    Let’s just say this page is a journey as it totally changed as it was created, but still show you how easy is to combine and work with all of Vicki’s amazing products.

This page started with a different idea in mind, but happy accidents happen for a reason.   Well this page stared with a  gessoed foundation paper  on which I added some watercolor (#13, 14 15) in sort of a column.

I had the idea of creating a small stenciled look behind the picture, and worked some of the acrylic pop paint (Blue Hawaiian and Saltwater Taffy) and water to use as ink to stamp the stencil on the page with.

Here is where I lost focus and over stenciled the page, so I decided to let it dry, and then use a Just Nick Studio cut file to cut  the title out of it.

Then I pulled a new foundation paper and masked it as to create a sunburst for half of the page.

The circle stamps, and the cool ink wheel were used to add interest and playfulness to every other triangle in the sunburst

Then to bring a bit of shine to the page, and mark the crisp lines of the sunburst, I added a bit of iridescent glaze to the watercolor in the palette, and used it paint the empty triangles of the sunburst.

Once it all dried, setting the layout was super easy.   Just a few paper layers behind the picture ( they come from the 7x10 and 12x12 paper pads)

Next clusters of ephemera were added to the corners of the picture, so that they add sentiment to the page, and also help create the visual triangle of this page.

A few foam adhesive squares help prop the title on the page.  To balance the page, a few pieces of paper were stitched to the layout so that they meet at the center of the bottom line, where one last

I love how masculine and clean this page is, though there is a lot of Vicki Magic behind it.  The following video will show you a more in depth look on how this came together:

I hope this serves as inspiration to pull your Vicki Boutin goodies and start playing with them.   Remember there is always something fun to create, and mistakes can always be worked into a page.

Sweet Moments

Scrapbook Layout created for Vicki Boutin DT  -  SWEET MOMENTS -

Hello lovelies!   How was your weekend?!

Nathalie with you today ( I am taking Jana’s schedule for this week!) to bring you a  bit of inspiration using Vicki’s All The Good Things collection and some of her new releases in one very Spring inspired page. For this entire month, we are partnering with JustNick Studio, so most of our projects will be featuring some of their awesome cut files.

This page started planned with a totally different idea on mind, but changed a bit along the way.  Based on my first set up, I started adding some of the starburst circle images –from Vicki’s latest stamp release –to a gessoed foundation paper.

I wanted to create “dandelions” on the background, so my choice was to use embossing ink, and frost white embossing powder to create these images.

Actually using embossing on top of the gessoed surface does not affect the background, and if you are going to add mixed media after embossing, then remember to gesso your page first.

To add color to the background, I pulled Vicki’s watercolor set and watercolor brushes.   If you have swatched your paints following the order of the box, then #8, #12, #13 were the colors combined to create the background on this page.

I started by adding a light color wash with lots of water, and raising the paper, so that the watercolor will flow around the stamp images.  Then using the finest brush, added splatter and some details at the edge of the background

The watercolor brings the detail of the embossed circles in the background nicely, so that they look like “dandelions”.

Here is where the layout took a change, as I decided to add the Floral Background 2 as part of the background.   This time, I welded the background so that it created this floral wave on the background.  The flowers were backed using the pink tone papers from Vicki’s All the Good Things collection, and some white vellum.

The flowers were attached to the background with some foam adhesive, and then a few of the watercolor sticker leaves were scattered around some of them, so that they add to the flowers definition.

The picture of my mom and nice were tucked under the cut file, and a few details were used to the picture.  The cardstock stickers, along with some of the watercolor stickers are plenty to decorate this picture.

To add a bit more of a break in between the flowers, a bit of watercolor was added to all the leaf stickers, and the large watercolor sticker butterfly.  The cool palette on these contrasts and complements the rich warm tones in the flowers.

To finish the page, I trimmed the top edge of the page a bit, and added a large strip of “The Little Things” paper to the bottom edge.  Here I created a smaller cluster with some cardstock stickers and enamel dots –all from the collection-.   The title was created with a combination of the collection’s thickers.

A few splatters of water-down rose gold just complete the page.    I am very happy with what the page, even when it took a major change as it was being created.  The following video will show you a more in depth look on how the page came together.

Remember to check Vicki’s All The Good Things collection and all her mixed Media goodies, they are all awesome.  Also if you are not part of the Vicki Boutin’s Mixed Media community on Facebook, come join us.  There is so much inspiration and fun happening there, plus there is a color challenge for the month (and this layout was inspired in those colors!)
That is all for me!
XOXO

Scrapbook Layout  - Sweet -

a sneak peak of the layout

Hello all!

it is no secret, I love a good cut file and so does my Cameo.  Fortunately the Cut Shoppe  design exclusive  cut files for Scrapbook Nerd (I happen to design for both companies, so major YAY!!)...  For the summer, a new cut file called Camp Glamp is available in the www.scrapbooknerd.com store,  THEY ARE FREE, so  go and get your copy.

In addition, we over at Scrapbook Nerd, have started a new series on how to use the Silhouette products and the software.  So, hop onto the blog (http://scrapbooknerd.com/)  to see my first attempt at a video  (I rather enjoy photography, but my IT guy -i.e. my son- has been hired as a producer) about the basics of using a cutfile.

For this project I only used the pinwheel element of the cutfile.  I cut two of this  pieces of the same dimensions, and backed the cut-outs using MME On Trend2 papers.

I used the sewing machine to stitch in each triangle to the cut-out

I wanted to add some color to the background, so I used some Heidi Swapp color shine to create a water color effect on the 11x11 in. mat.

lots of ink droplets on the background.

The two cut-outs were attached along the diagonal line of the mat, and the picture was placed at the intersection of the two cut-outs.

The title and all embelishment come from the On Trend2 collection

I added my journal in one of the triangles of the top cut-out, and chose not to trim the cut-out to fit within the page, instead i opted to keep it overlapping the layout.

a close up to the  top of the layout.

Finally I matted the layout on top of  a paper from the same collection, and added some enamel dots to the layout.  Here is the final look:

The paper collection is beautiful, and works perfecty with the cut-file

I hope you enjoy the layout, and  if you want to obtain a copy of the cutfile here is the website link: http://scrapbooknerd.com/xencart/index.php?main_page=products_new

As always feel free to contact me with any questions.

Take care!!

Together

Scrapbook Layout   - Together -

Valentine's Day left me lots of memories to document.  After seeing a layout from Paige Evans on  Scrapbook.com, I knew that i wanted something similar for one of  my pictures.  So  I venture to create a cutfile;  it took me 2 nights, a few cups of coffee, and some divine inspiration (i thank you Juliana Michaels), but i got it... At the end,  I learned I still need to learn more about my Silhouette Cameo machine, but I got the perfect cutfile.   Here is the link to the cutfile:
https://app.box.com/s/b0ret1bq9gd94xiiz52cderbrfwwq7qv

The cut-out was attached using foam dots so create  interest in the layout
-gotta love the shadow of the cut-out on the patterned paper-

All the patterned paper come from Dear Lizzy's Documentary collection.  First I used the coral-red watercolor washed paper as the mat for the entire layout.  A little bit of texture paste (white) and a polka dot stencil (both from Heidi Swapp) were used to add texture to the layout.

I enjoy the contrast between the texture paste and the ink splotches.

Once I had the white cardstock cut-out, i traced every letter in different papers from the same collection, and proceeded to attach them to the cut out using foam dots.  I love to see different levels in my layouts.  I cut the picture (black and white processed) to fit within the edge of the letter O.  After all the cut-out was matted, I attached it to the center of the patterned paper mat.

A few pieces of ephemera are enough, as I wanted the detail of the cut file to show.

Once a week, we have a foiling session at home.  My daughter and I love our MInc machine,  and used it to create most of the ephemera for this layout.

I used the leftover foil from another piece to create the butterfly.

If you have seen my layouts before, then you know I love tags,  so I found a way to include them in my layout.  I attached two tags with some gold thread, and glued the thread as a leading line to my journaling.

a few glue dots helped shape the tails of string of the tags.

I enjoyed creating this layout.  I am thinking of framing it to keep it permanently on top of my sofa table... i'll update you on what i decide to do with it..

Please help yourself to the cutfile, just make sure to mention my name if you publish it.  I would love to see what you do with it.

See you soon.
