Find Wonder in All Things

Scrapbook Layout created for Scrapbook Nerd - FIND WONDER IN ALL THINGS -

Hello there!

It is time for a new round of  DT projects for Scrapbook Nerd (I love the owners of this store!!).   This time I chose to work with the Dream Big collection from Fancy Pants Designs to document a picture of my daughter as we experience some beautiful skies while flying to Ecuador.

I used a cut file from the Silhouette Store to create the large stitched title in the page,  A bit of watercolor brings the title forward.  Then I trimmed the cardstock and glued it to one of the papers from the collection.

I chose to distress a piece of the mat, and inserted a small cluster of ephemera so that there are small little spots of interest along the page.   Just loved the unexpected cluster.

To bring all the  idea of flying, I used pieces from the collection to create the clusters around the page.   I fell in love with the birds icons from the collection!!

I love how this came together.   The colors are dreamy, and all that stitching sings in my heart.   Remember to stop by the Scrapbook Nerd store to check all the materials used here.  There are so many beautiful products available at  the store.

I will be back in a bit with a surprise for you all,

take care!!

You Go Girl

Scrapbook Layout created for Clique Kits  -  YOU GO GIRL  -

Hello everyone!

Happy Easter!

Today I am up on the Clique Kits blog with a new layout using the beautiful "JELLYBEAN" kit, and its exclusive cut files.  This time i picked the large phrase title to be the center piece of this page.

To make the title stand out, i added a small white border around the title (the offset).  The title was cut from the beautiful Bella Bld.'s "Magnifique" paper  -though the flowers are gorgeous, I was drawn to the colors and paint brush marks on the image-.  I made sure to cut the title from the center of the Magnifique page.

Once the cuts were glued together,  the edge of the title was pierced to add some stitching and texture to it.  After adding hand stitching to the title,  I set out to construct the page.   First,  i trimmed about 0.5in from two of the edges of a light pink card stock.  Then I used watercolors and inks to add some color to the background.

Once the background dried,  the title was attached to the page, making sure it sit right in the middle of the large watercolor background.  The picture of  my niece holding her art TN (she loves TNs as much as I do!) was placed above the title.  I used the exclusive printables, and ephemera included in the Jellybean kit, as well as the puffy stickers from the Make Your Mark collection that are available in the store, to frame the picture.

To finish the page, using the sewing machine, I stitched the  layout to the left over piece of the "Magnifique" paper, making sure to leave two opposite corners free .  These were folded into the layout to be used as part of the clusters formed here. I tried to use these corners to bring some of the colorful accents and embellishments from the Jellybean kit.  Here is the final layout:

Don't the colors and title work just pop  out of this page?  Though I love the roses, I wanted to take a different approach when using the Make Your Mark  "Magnifique" from the Jellybean kit in this layout.   I am so pleased with the end result, and i hope it inspires you to create stand out titles for your project.

Don't forget to check Clique Kits to register for a subscription (there are just some spots available) for their gorgeous kits, or sign up for their newer Traveler's Notebook kit.  You will love them! I am always a comment away if you have any questions on how this came together.

 Thanks for stopping by, today!

Happy Times -SN

Scrapbook Layout created for Scrapbook Nerd's blog:   HAPPY TIMES

Hello there!

i hope you are all safe from the snow!  It is starting to look a lot like winter here in Canada!

A few of the members in the Scrapbook Nerd community had asked how i create the watercolor background on my layouts.   So I thought i create  a small tutorial to illustrate one of the ways i go about creating a background.   I shot a small video to accompany the tutorial on Scrapbook Nerd's blog.   Please enjoy the video:

The title of this page comes from Juliana Michaels's free cut file, "Besties".  I hand stitched it onto the watercolor background.   The rest of the project came together by using  Pink Paislee's Take Me Away collection.  Here are some close ups, and the final layout:

Don't forget to check Scrapbook Nerd's blog for all the details on the tutorial.

As always, let me know if you have any questions on how this came together.

Thanks for visiting today.

The Wonder of It All

Scrapbook layout created for Scrapbook Nerd's Silhouette Savvy Series

Hello there!

Welcome to a new tutorial in the Silhouette Savvy Series for Scrapbook Nerd.   I have had a few request i show  how i go about creating my stand-out stitched titles on my layouts.  So i thought i show you one of the ways i go about creating the cut-out for the title.   For this tutorial, I am using the Cut Shoppe's Around the World cut file to create the title, heavy card stock, watercolor, and my Silhouette pen attachment.  I have created a video to show you the technical part of creating this title:

I hope you enjoyed the  video (forgive the accent!).  Here is what the title looked like  right after being cut on the Cameo - i used a #2 pencil to make it visible for the picture, but i usually go for a 2H pencil or my white sketch pen, so there is very little trace of the original lines-:

I used an American Crafts paper piercing tool to poke holes (a stitching guide) along the penciled lined of the words, but you can use a thumb tack, a needle, etc.   I also use foam to help me create the holes in the paper:

Here is what the title looks like right after all the holes have been poked:

Like I said before, i usually use a 2H pencil to create the title (or my white sketch pen) to ensure that there is very little trace of the drawn lines after erasing:

For the sample layout of this tutorial, I colored inside of the holed out lines with some shimmer watercolor, and used matching  embroidery floss to finish the title.   Here is the final title:

For this layout, I chose to document a few pictures of my kids as we took them on the gigantic ferris wheel at Niagara Falls (a few years back).   I am using Dear Lizzy's Saturday collection (which i picked from the Scrapbook Nerd store)   The large cut-out comes from the Silhouette store, and was stitched to the layout  ( i like repeating textures on a layout).

I created a strip of pictures from the trip using Photoshop, and mounted it on one side of the layout.   Small clusters of ephemera just add small interest to the page:

I placed the title on the opposite side of the picture, and added a few more small details to complete the page.  Here is the final layout:

I hope this tutorial helps you to see how your Silhouette Cameo can help you with creating stand-out stitched titles for your projects.  Don't forget to visit Scrapbook Nerd to pick all the material used in this layout (the ladies who own the store are amazing!).   As always, if you still have questions about this layout please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for visiting the blog today.

See you all soon!

Fur-ever Friends

Scrapbook Layout - Fur-Ever Friends -

a close up to the layout.

Hello!,

It seems that i have so many projects to publish on my blog, that i am taking a day to add them all in. For today's layout, i chose the Millie & June collection to document a picture of my two babies.   I loved this girly collection, and I am stashing quite a bit of it for later use.

I started this layout by cutting strips of papers of the different collections (I used part of the branding strips of each paper).  I decided to weave the strips, and create a triangle with the weaved strips.  Since, it is such colorful collection, I used the black paper on the collection as the mat for the layout.

I decided to place the picture along the triangle, and add clusters of  ephemera, tags, and stickers of the collection around the it.  To add softness to the picture, I layered pieces of the cut-out from the Flower Power cut file from The Cut Shoppe.

A close up to the picture

The title was created using a font from the Silhouette store.  I used the sketch pens to draw the words, and used an offset to cut around it.  Using a piercing tool, I created a stitching guide on the sketch words.   Blue thread was used to stitched  the pattern.

To end the project, a few more details were added along the page, and used a white gel pen to add my journal lines to the bottom left corner of the page.  Here is the final layout:

Can I say that i love this page?  It is different that what i usually create, but i like to challenge myself, and long time ago decided to never repeat a design, and try a bit of each of what scrapbook has to offer.  I hope this inspires you to try something different for the a change.

Till next time,

Take care!
