Bloom

Scrapbook Layout created for Simple Stories - BLOOM -

Hi there!
Nathalie with you today with a new super sweet and simple layout featuring the new Simple Stories BLOOM collection.  This collection is rich in all positive vibes, a beautiful color palette, and my favorite: florals!!

The b-side of the Sn@p Basics Walnut/Cream dot paper was used as the mat for this layout.   Then two large strips of the Happy Times and Today's the Day from the Bloom collection were stitched to the mat.

To bring out a bit of the teal color in the collection, a little bit of mixed media was added to the background, just enough to peek under the picture.  The picture was then layered with papers from the collection and glued to the page.

All the florals in the papers of this collection, as well as in the stickes and ephemera pieces made it so easy to create clusters around the picture.   A bit of fussy cutting the Happy Times paper florals was all that this page needed to shine.

But the Bloom collection also is packed with beautiful quotes and icons (ephemera and stickers) that can easily be added to your projects, in this case, these helped convey the sentiment of the page.

To finish this page, the chipboard sticker ('BLOOM') was used.  The choice to flip the title was made so that it balance the line that the stitched papers form behind the picture.

I think my line, "love how this turned out", would fit this properly, but honestly this was so easy to put together and the results are truly beautiful.   The BLOOM collection is perfect to document those enlighting life moments. I cannot wait to see what you create with it!

XO

My Girl

Scrapbook Layout created for Scrapbook Nerd  - My Girl -

Hello there,

This is my reveal week at Scrapbook Nerd.  This month, i was inspired by simplicity, white space, and black and white pictures, in no particular order.
For my first project, I am using the Crate Paper's Cute Girl collection (which i purchased to document my young niece, but am using in other projects, too).

The background of the layout.

The cut-out was created with a Paige Evans design for Studio Calico.   I chose to back each square with papers from the collection (using the 6x6 paper pad), and different color vellum.

My daughter.

I chose to anchor the layout with this picture of my daughter.  I created a small cluster around the picture with pieces from the collection.

To balance the piece, I added a small cluster on the opposite side (diagonally) of the picture.  I pulled some pieces from the collection, and a few from Crate Paper's Hello Love collection.

Finally, I matted the cut-out on a paper from the collection, and added my journal lines  at the bottom of the page.

I really love the color contrast on this page, and how the picture is highlighted without much decor.   IF you wish to order all the materials used on this layout, please visit Scrapbook Nerd.  Joy and Barb will help you with any order.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

See you all tomorrow!

Good Times

Scrapbook Layout created for Creative Scrappers (sponsored by The Cut Shoppe) - Good Times -.

Hello all!,

It is so exciting to be able to share this layout (it has been ready for over 6 weeks) with you all...  The Cut Shoppe is sponsoring Creative Scrappers this month, and we -the design team- got to work with an amazing sketch  (#297) by putting our style into a layout.

Creative Scrappers Sketch #297  - used in this  layout-

It was fun to use the sketch to create a layout about my daughter and god-daughter when they were little girls, and love to play around the house.   Since I knew that i wanted a very girly design, i chose to use  the Flower Power cut file  in replacement for the circles in the sketch.  In addition, i used the linear division of the sketch to combine papers of the Bloom collection to  achieve the same look.   Please enjoy this small video on how the layout was created (I don't like voice overs, and trust me after 25 ++ years in Canada, I still haven't lost my Spanish accent)...

I stayed true to most of the sketch for the picture portion of the sketch, but replaced the stars and the journal tag with lots of flowers from the Bloom collection.  The title was created with the Let's Talk Summer cut file.

My beautiful little girls are framed by the title and lots floral cut-outs

Since i added a lot of stitching to this piece, i decided to replace the bottom circles from the sketch with stitched journal lines...

To finish the layout, I replaced the stars with butterflies from the same Crate Paper collection.  Here is the layout i have created using Creative Scrappers sketch #297 as inspiration...

Reading Queen

Scrapbook Layout  - Reading Queen -  created for Scrapbook Nerd

a close up of the title of the layout.

hello everyone,

It is my reveal week at Scrapboook Nerd ;  and i was inspired by @heyelsie (her IG name) and her love for creting figures with paper and handstitching -two of my favorite techniques-.     At the same time, I had pictures of my niece reading books on my son's bunk bed (this is what she does everytime she comes over), so I decided to combine both to create a soft layout.

For the layout, i used this illustration as my starting point for the look I wanted to achieve.  The entire drawing was transferred onto trace paper (just using a pencil and bright light).   I chose all Crate Paper's Bloom collection to recreate the books, and add softness to the layout.  Each little silhouette was traced onto the paper and glued into position following the illustration on trace paper (it looked like a big puzzle).

Once everything was glued to the mat, i used a paper piercer to make perforation along the edges of each line in the illustration.  There were a few hours of hand stitching adding the details to the books.  In addition, I used my Cameo to draw the title, so I can also hand stitch it at the same time.  I used ivory thread to complete the look.
Here is a look at the pieces coming together.

I used parts of the branding strips to create the names on the book's binding.

Using the Illustration as a guideline, I placed my picture where the cat illustration was located.  I added a few pieces of ephemera around so that it adds some interest to the picture.

I recreated the bookmark using some crochet floss, a charm and gold links..

I wanted to add interest to the books' spines, so I fussy cut pieces of the collection to add 'names' on the books.  I used some hand stitching to  attached the pieces to the layout.

This little cut-outs served to add details on the layout.

To finish the page, I added the journal notes at thee bottom of the page, and a few drops of Blush colorshine.  Here is the final layout:

this layout is soft and sweet..

I love the final look of this layout,  one of my favorites by far (though it took some time to create, I enjoyed putting it together).

As always let me know if you have any questions.

See you soon!!

Create

Scrapbook Layout  - Create -

Hello everyone!,

A close up of the cut-out in the layout.

Today I am up at the Scrapbook Nerd blog with a tech tutorial on how to use their new Camp Glamp cutfile (design by The Cut Shoppe) to creat the cut-out used in this layout -all you have to do is click here and you will be directed to their web page-.  Check out the blog post as it will inspire you to look at cutfiles in a new light.

I cut the heart outlines on patterned paper from the Snap Basic collection from Simple Stories.  I knew i wanted to use this paper for the entire layout, so I used some mixed media to highlight the cut-out.  So i went ahead and used watercolors (all the colors of the rainbow) to create a mixed media background.

I played with different papers, and yellow cardstock was the best choice
to back the cut.

The background was glued to the wood grain paper, making sure that the watercolor sit within the cut hearts' outline.  With a paper piercer, i perforated the entire outline of the cut (leaving a 0.25 in.offset fromt he cut), and proceeded to stitch the entire outline using the different color thread (all rainbow colors in pastel tones).

A close up of the stitching on the project.

Some vellum was used to back the word CREATE in the middle heart.  I used my gold paint marker to color both sides of the cut-out letters.  Once the paint dried completely,  i used  very thin scissors to cut all the vellum that did was peeking behind the letters.

the gold accent brings focus to the word "CREATE" which serves as the
title for this layout.

The hearts cutout was attached to the layout using foam dots behind the cut-out (hence providing that shadow).   I added small pieces of ephemera in the hearts to create some visuals around the page.

i continued the stitched motive by stitching the journal lines, and some of the
butterflies using the sewing machine.

I started this layout with a picture in mind, and changed it once the background was created.  I opted for a self portrait of me working on this layout.  The picture was attached to a few layers of patterned paper and added a few embelishments around the corners.

the cut-out was created, so that it will nest a picture next to the heart with the word.

To balance the layout, a small cluster of cut-outs and die cuts was positioned at the bottom left corner of the page.   Once this was attached,   a few sprinkles of gold ink, enamel dots and all the butterflies were added to the page.  Here is the complete layout:

This is one of my favorite layers  of this year so far.

I hope you hop onto the Scrapbook Nerd website and get a copy of the cut file (it is free in the store, just need to create an account;  and the  ladies that own the store are lovely), and then visit their blog to see how to manipulate the cutfile to create this cut-out.

Feel free to contact me with any questions, just leave me a message.

Till next time

Happy Crafting!!

BE YOU!

Scrapbook Layout  - Be You! -

Hello everyone!

I hope you are doing well;  i have been busy with a lot of new projects -coming soon to the blog-.  However, one of the nerds at Scrapbook Nerd (Barb -the owner-)  had the idea of playing layout tag, though i have never play this before, I enter my name to the long list.
Once i received the e-mail with the layout (I have to scraplift), my first thought was my daughter's recent pictures of her  in her graduation outfits and lace.

For this layout I used the Funky Floral cut file from the Cut Shoppe to create this flower cut-out.  I also cut some individual flowers and matching leaves.   I stitched this piece of paper lace with the sewing machine through the middle of the cut-out, and chose to not glue the edges to the mat.

The welded flowers in the cut-out remind me of the lace in my daughter's outfits.

Since the layout i was scraplifting had 3 4x6in pictures, I wanted to scale the pictures down in size, so they fit within the lace cut-out.   Thankfully, I took plenty of pictures of my daughter modelling her dresses, and a had a series that worked perfect on this layout.

I used a larger picture in the middle, as i wanted to anchor the piece and show the real  her.

The layout had banners on both edges of the page, so I went ahead and added banners to the top of the page, along with some ephemera and cut-outs.

I used a sewing machine to add the banners.

For the bottom, i added the same banners and a cut out from the Wild Flowers cut file from Scrapbook Nerd.  I also added a couple cut outs, and sequin  to both corners of the layout.

I wrote a large part of my journal on the back of the page,
and a few lines in the bottom banner.

For the title I used wood pieces from Michael's summer collection.  Here is the final layout:

I love the softness of the page...

I love this layout, it is soft just like the dresses she picked, but shows my daughter's true self at the same time.

I hope you like it, too

See you soon!

Happy Memory

Scrapbook Layout  - Happy Memory -

My favorite layout from the on-line crop challenges

Hello everyone,

This is the last layout I have worked on throughout this weekend's online crop.  I used one -of the thousands- of the pictures from our trip to Ecuador last year.  Since we attended my cousin's wedding,  I wanted to capture the occasion with a floral motive.

The Cut Shoppe's Funky florals cut file was perfect to obtain this large cut-out of the rose, and the rest of the leaves and flowers.   I used papers from Authentique's GRA001 collection to back the flowers. To add softness, I added vellum behind the picture, and used it to back some leaves on the layout.

A close up of the picture on the layout.

I added a few stars and hearts with whipped speckle to the corners of the layout to add texture and interest to the page.  The title is a large sticker from an old Heidi Swapp collection, but suited the page perfectly.  I even added the tag from the wedding's bombonniere as part of the embelishment on the picture.  I have omitted the jourmal lines, as I will most likely ask my cousins to write something about us being there, and place it at the top of the layout...

Here is the final layout:
