JOY

Scrapbook layout created for Simple Stories  - JOY -

Hi there! Nathalie with you today to share with you a layout all about the most joyful time of the year, Christmas.  The new Simple Stories collections are so festive and joyous that it was hard to chose which one to use to document a picture of my littles (niece and nephew).   Well, after much debating, I went for the new MERRY and BRIGHT collection to create this page.

To build this page, I used a Paige Evans cut file to create the wreath base from the 4x6 Horizontal elements paper and vellum, and then handstitched them to the Sn@p Basic  12x12 Elk/Cream ledger paper.

Next the poinsettas were created using a cut file from Just Nick Studio from the It is a Wonderful Life paper and another paper from the 6x8 paper pad.  To break some of the red, i used a paper from the High Style paper pad to cut a few poinsettas, too

The flowers were built and glued onto the page.  Then i used a Silhouette design to cut the ivy and pine leaves that are layered under the flowers from the Joy and Happiness paper.

The picture was then added in the middle of the flower cluster, and then just a few embellishments from the chipboard, puffy and cardstock stickers were added around it.  To finish the page, the title was created using a die cut piece from the Merry and Bright collection along with a few more stickers.   A few gold and white ink splatters complete this page.

Love how this turned out, and i am sure my sister will be framing this page as a Christmas decor piece for her home.  I hope you are all inspired to check the new Merry and Bright collection from Simple Stories,  it is sure to help you record all your upcoming memories.

The Big Pumpkin Adventure

Hello everyone!
Nathalie with you today to close Halloween week here in the blog.  By now you all have eaten some candy, and capture lots of memories of the recent or past Halloween;  so,  let me show you just one more idea on how to document those pictures using Vicki's Mixed Media and her paper collections.

I wanted a page that would make the picture of my daughter's first Jack-o-Lantern pop, so i knew that adding black to the background will accent all the colors added.   I used a gesso foundation paper, and watercolors to create the background of this page.  Since i had the cut file ready (cut from a foundation paper), i marked the limits of the cut out, and then added black watercolor with a brayer within those limits.  Next I added a few accents of purple and orange watercolor, gold splatters and then some black stamping images using the Escape the Ordinary  stamp to the background.

At first i thought about coloring the cut out, but the contrast with the background brought all the details in the cut forward.  So, instead i used a bit of warm art crayons and gold glaze to color some vellum which was then used to back the pumpkins of the cut out.   The details of the pumpkins' faces were then added using Vicki's markers.    I used  a bit of foam adhesive to prop the cut out on the page.

The picture was backed with papers from the Field notes collection, and then glued to the background with foam adhesive.  I added a bit of black washi tape around the frame (this helps to pop the picture), and then used embellishments from the Field Notes collection to complete the clusters around the picture.

To create the title, i used a combination of the Field Notes collection black thickers and watercolor stickers with the All The Good Things Collection alphas.  When i cut the border cut out, also a few bats were cut, and then colored with black watercolor. These were then scattered around the page.  Just love how this all turned out!

I love the end results, the black background with the small color spots bring out the detail in the border cut out, and those little Jack-o-lanterns help tell the story of the 5in pumpkin statue.   Here is a video that shows you how this came together:

Well, that is it for me today!  I hope this week has provided plenty of inspiration on how to document those beautiful and scary Halloween memories using VIcki's products.  Remember you can always contact the DT if you have questions on how all these projects came together, and we would love to have you join (if you haven't yet) the Vicki Boutin Mixed Media community page on Facebook.  Lots of inspiration shared daily in the community!

Love, Love, Love You To The Moon and Back

Scrapbook Layout create for Citrus Twist Kits  - LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK -

Hi there!
Nathalie with you today with this week's 3-to-Inspire challenge.  By now you all have seen the  new Sunshine in My Sould kit, what can i say, GORGEOUS!  So, let's get ready for a new batch of prompts that hopefully will challenge you  throughout the week:

1. Use a non-white background
2. Create fussy cut embellishments
3. Document  special someone/somebody who you are "Thankful for"

I was so drawn to the beautiful floral paper from Paige Evans Whimsical collection -included in the Sunshine in my Soul kit-, that i decided to fussy cut a few of the floral clusters to use in my page.

I  love white cardstock for my backgrounds, but this paper from Pink Paislee (also included in the Sunshine in my Soul Scrapbook kit) provided a soft and muted color background for the page.   I used a bit of mixed media in the background to make everything else pop from the page,

Once the background dried, the layout came together quite rapidly, as i used the fussy cut floral images to create the large clusters of flowers behind the picture.   Along the way, I added a few cut file leaves created using this month's  Floral Frame cut file.

To embellish the page, i chose to use some of the cut apart elements from the free monthly printable sheet along with some of the puffy stickers and enamel dots from the Whimsical collection included in this month's kits.

To build the title of this page, I decide to use one of this month's free cut files -Thanksgiving Titles -to create a stitching pattern on white cardstock.  A bit of chain stitching and gold watercolor bring color and texture to the title.

Now to complete the title i used a combination of the hand stitched cut out, the This is Life stamp set and one of th Rub-ons from the whimsical collection included in the Embellishment kit.   I wanted to emphasize how much i love my daughter and how thankful i am for her, so having this bold title works perfectly.  The following video will show you how it all came together:

Now it is your turn to use the prompts to create a project of your own.   Remember to tag Citrus Twist Kits whenever you share your project on social media.  I cannot wait to see what you create with the Sunshine in my Soul kits .
