HERE & NOW - Scrapbook Nerd

Hello there!

This week the DT at Scrapbook Nerd is working projects that document Travels and Summer.  I pulled the beautiful Sunny Days collection and a cut file from Handipaper to create a page all about my daughter's first trip to LA a few years back.

Lately, i have been loving non white backgrounds, this time I pulled a light blue cardstock for the background and added and extra splash of color (a bit too much, i think) using some white paint and Jane Davenport's Mermaid Markers.

While the background dried,  i used a cut file from Handipaper to create the seashell wreath cut out for the page.  I backed each image with papers from the Maggie Holmes' Sunny Days collection, and even added  a bit of extra color to some of the images using the markers.

Once the background was completely dried, i used a bit of foam adhesive to attach the cut out to the layout.   The pictures were then backed with pieces from the large alpha cards from the collection; these too were attached to the page followed with a series of fussy cut shells and embellishments.

I clustered most of the embellishments at the lower part of the page surrounding the pictures.   Then added the title of the page at the top of the wreath.  I wanted to mark the location of the pictures in the page, so i used mini alphas at at the end of the seashell cluster.   I made sure to leave plenty of empty space under the title for my daughter's lines of journal.  Here is the final layout:

Love how this page came together, and all the colors in the page.   I am sure my daughter will cherish this page, and will be able to add her memories on the page.

YOU & ME - Scrapbook Nerd

Hi there!

This week the DT for Scrapbook Nerd has been asked to create projects all about flowers and gardens.  So, i pulled the new Maggie Holmes' Sunny Days collection -cause her florals are always some of my favorites- to  create this page.

I started by adding a bit of mixed media to the right bottom corner of the layout using VIcki Boutin's Watercolor Markers in Blueberry Pie, while the background dried, I fussy cut the flowers and paper strips from the 12x12 paper pad, and also created a vellum pocket to hold my lines of journal.

I stitched the strips of paper to the right edge of the page, and then used pieces of paper and ephemera from the collection to back and layer the picture.

All the fussy cut florals were then used to create clusters around the picture.    A few extra stickers, ephemera pieces and clear stickers were then added to the clusters around the picture.   The gold glitter alphas of the collection were then added to create the title for this page.

I love how this turned out, the flowers are a complement to all the layers of paper, while the mixed media creates enough contrast to highlight all the papers and picture in this page.  You can find a Layout tutorial in the Scrapbook Nerd Instagram account, and all the materials used in the Scrapbook Nerd shop.

BEAUTIFUL LOVE - Simple Stories

Hi friends!  Nathalie here today with a new layout that celebrates Mom's Love, and what better way to document it than with the new Simple Stories "MOM'S DAY" collection.

The colors and florals in the Mom's Day collection were the inspiration for this layout all about  the relationship my sister and nephew are building.  For this I pulled a cut file from Handipaper to create the large title of the layout.

I used the papers (including the cut apart elements) to back the empty spaces of the cut out, and then decided to glue the title in the center of the background - Sn@p Basics Birch/ White Grid paper- with a bit of foam adhesive.

Before gluing the pictures down, I fussy cut lots of florals from the elements paper, and the My Mum paper; in addition, i also cut out the banners from the elements to use in the cluster and as part of the title.   I trimmed the edges of the background, and added strips of the Mom's Day collection to its sides.

The pictures were then glued on opposite sides of the title so that they form a vertical line on the page, and added the fussy cut florals and embellishments from the Mom's Day collection to just frame the pictures.  A few lines of journal and some pink gems complete the page.

The new Mom's Day collection  is simply perfect to document all your Mom special moments and the upcoming Mother's Day celebrations.  Hope you all have a blessed Mother's Day!

Grateful for YOU

Scrapbook Layout created for Scrapbook Nerd  - GRATEFUL FOR YOU -

Hi there! This week, we have asked the DT to showcase the beautiful Pink Paislee's "Auburn Lane" collection in their projects.   This collection has a fall color palette, modern designs, and some beautiful floral illustrations that are perfect to embellish a page.   The secret is to fussy cut each of the floral images so that they can be used as decorations in your page.

The floral images on  paper #3 and #6 of the collection were carefully cut (fussy cut) so that they can be used as layered embellishments that form a large cluster of flowers in the  page.

The secret to creating this embellishments is to detail cut the images from the paper.   In this case, paper #3  has a dark background, so each image was cut around its edge, so that none of the dark background shows in the image.  At the same time, paper #6 has a white background, so a very small white border was left around the image - this just helps to separate the images when layering them on the layout.  The following process video will showcase how this page came together:

All those fussy cut florals are the focal point of this page, and bring plenty of interest to the layout that minimizes the use of other embellishments.

Really love how this page turned out using the large fussy cut floral elements.   All the florals create the perfect background for this cherished memory of my family.
I hope this inspires you to create your own embellishments by fussy cutting embellishments off your patterned papers.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions on how this came together,  Remember to check all the materials used in this page at Scrapbook Nerd.

 Take care,

I Am a Mom

Scrapbook Layout created for Simple Stories  - I AM A MOM -

Hello Simple Stories friends and fans!  Nathalie with you today with a new layout that speaks to my soul using the beautiful I AM collection.

I don't know about you, but i can not get enough of all the florals in the I Am collection ( plus if you have seen my work before, then you know i am a sucker for florals!).  So what better way to showcase them than to fussy cut them and use them  as the focal point of a layout.

For this page, my idea was to have all the flowers as if they were wrapped around the picture.  So i cut a large strip of the 4x6 horizontal and 4x6 vertical elements and stitched them together, and then used a bit of cardstock to propped this on the center of the b side of the Walnut/Cream Dot paper from the Sn@p basics.

Then used some quality time with my detailing scissors just fussy cutting floral designs from a few of the papers from the collection and the 6x8 paper pad

Once i set the picture on the vertical strip of paper, a bit of foam adhesive was used to layer the florals and embellishments.  I tried my best to create the illusion of the flowers wrapping around the paper strip.

The butterflies help guide the eye across the layout which helped to add lots of small word stickers and ephemera that tell the story of the picture, "motherhood"

Finally the title was created using some of the Chipboard stickers, and the Sn@p Color Vibes Light letter stickers ( which match the tones in the florals).   A few stamped sentiments using the rotaty stamp complete this page.

I love this page, it tells the story of the past 18 years of my life.  Trust me, the I AM collection is perfect to create those unique stories about you, just the way you want to tell them.  So don't forget to check it at your scrapbooking store.

XOXO
