Nathalie with you today bringing a new layout that combines a few of the  Just Nick Studio store's beautiful cut files to create a page all about how much i love my baby (and yes, he is  our doggie!)



To create the background of this page,  the new Funky Floral Background 2 was used.   I isolated just one of the images, and then  resize a few copies of the image to create the cascading flower look of the background. 





To bring color and dimension to the page, I chose to back all teh flowers with papers from Paige Evans Pick Me Up collection, and then fold the emds of the petals, so that they create the illusion of real petals on the page.





To frame the picture in this layout, first i layered a few pieces of paper behind it, and then used the Ring Around My Heart background cut file to create a small cut out (from white cardstock and one of the collection's papers) that could be used as a layer/frame around the picture.






To create the title of this page, I chose to cut the "Love You" sentiment from the  You Make My Heart Smile design from two different papers from the collection.  Then glued them together with an offset, and prop them up with some foam adhesive on the layout.



Just love how easy and and colorful this page turned out.  I love the cascading florals in the background and the color combination of the rest of the cut outs created with the beautiful Just Nick Studio cut files.

Reworking Backgrounds

Hello everyone! Hope you are all enjoying this new week!  It is time for a new tutorial, and this time i wanted to show a way to rework those layouts we some-and/or-many times we end up not loving after they are completely finished.

 

This is the original layout i had created for this tutorial, i wanted to show you a quick and easy mixed media background, but i think i got carried away, and ended up not loving the finished product.  So i set it aside for a while, and played with a few ideas, but i knew that it was not up to my liking, so i decided to rework it.  So please enjoy the following video that will show you how this layout yielded two new layouts:

 How about those layouts!!  Let me just give you  a bit more information on what i created with that salvage layout.

   


 This new layout is similar to the original one created.   The major difference is all that extra gold stenciling that run diagonally across the opposite side of the picture.

   

   This layout has a more refined background, and all the elements of the previous page (i kept them all as they were featured in the first page).  With this simpler design, the picture is the focus of the page, and all the embellishments (all from Pebbles' Patio Party Collection) shine without being overtaken by the background.  Now onto the next page:

 

   This layout features the background of the original page.  The choice to cut circles out of the original lbackground takes away the busy pattern that all that extra stenciling created on the page.

    

 A bit of a watercolor brings a new clean canvas for all those background circles.  Due to the bold pattern of the circles, just a few of them are enough to complete the page, and add dimension to the layout at the same time.

   

   To balance the bold pattern in the circle, the rest of the layout's embellishments were kept simple, so that the picture becomes the focus of the page. I am sure some of you might think that reworking a background into other pages might be a bit of a stretch, and i completely understand.  But  this might serve as inspiration to create your own patterned paper (so you could create shapes out of it), or to try a simple mixed media background.    It is completely up to you!

Hello Love

Hi there!  Nathalie with you today to bring you a bit of inspiration using the colors in Vicki’s monthly challenge (you can find all the details in the Vicki Boutin Mixed Media community, come join us!!!) with a fun Just Nick Studio cut file.

For this page, I started with the cut file as inspiration (I saw this file in one of Vicki’s Facebook Live episodes, and quickly downloaded it to my library!); so I played with the brushstrokes until they aligned like in the layout, and sent it to cut in the Silhouette Cameo from one of the foundation papers.

While the design was being cut, I mixed Acrylic Matter Gel with a bit of white Art Crayon.  I wanted the sheen of the gel to show on the background, that is why I mixed some crayon in it.  Then proceeded to pass the gel through the script stencil onto a gessoed foundation paper.

Since gel medium takes a bit of time to dry, I started to add color to the cut outs.  For this, I thinned out the four colors - Juicy Pear, Sugared Strawberry, Blue Hawaiian, and Coral Macaroon- of acrylic paint with some water, and used a brayer to color the cut outs as if they were made with a brush.

These dried pretty quickly, so a little after; I decided to pull some art crayons and the stencil brush to add a bit of interest to the paint strokes.  Many of Vicki’s stencils were used, and a few of the crayons were mixed to create the colors of the paint.

 Also the stencil brush was used to add more definition to the edges of the cut outs.  Think of it as using the ink blender on the edge of the papers. 

Now that the gel medium had dried, it was time to complete the background.  For this I simply used the black color from the watercolor set with lots of water.  Then used the widest paint brush to create watercolor paint strokes on top of the dried gel medium. 

 To finish the background, I buffed the script impression with a baby wipe, and left it aside to dry for a bit.

Setting up this page took no time, since I knew that the paint strokes with words were forming the title, and then they will be stacked on the page.

The cut outs were then glued to the page using some foam adhesive to add lift to some of the strokes, and create dimension along the page.  A few pieces of ephemera were added in between some of the strokes to add sentiment to the page.

The picture was then glued to the page using foam squares.  Clusters were then created at the corners of the page, and then a bit of rose gold glaze was diluted so that it can be added as droplets around the page.

To finish the page, I pulled the Finishing embellishments and add them to the page, just to bring more of the colors of the page together. 

Love how this page turned out!  The colors just pop with the dark watercolor background and the small script that shows brings more interest to the page.  The following video will show you how this page came together:

Hello CTK friends and fans!
Nathalie with you today bringing you a project using this month's gorgeous  LEMON DROP scrapbooking and Embellishment Kits.

  When Trina shared with us what will be included in the LEMON DROP  kit, I was so excited to receive it (and probably purchased all the add-ons) since i have a very large number of vacation pictures yet to be documented.  But before, I  continue on, let me show you what i created for this post:

The inspiration for this page was the color contrast between the Scenic View paper (from the Here and There collection from Crate Paper) and the rose gold  tones in the ephemera both included in the main kit.   So i decided to create a rather monochromatic simple look for this page that ensure the picture pops.

The background of this page was created using a bit of acrylic pain (Vicki Boutin) to match the color of the ephemera.   Them to replicate the train rail, a bit of texture paste (Ranger) was used on top of the acrylic paint.   The contrast in texture and color make all the pieces of ephemera and layers pop  behind the picture.

The Lemon Drop kits are  probably one of my favorites, yet!  It was so easy to combine pieces from them to add sentiments and details around the page.  Plus the stamp -included in the kit- is perfect to give a bit more details to the page.   My final touch was creating the little fold to the page, and adding the flair that serves as the title for this page!   Here is a video that showcases how the page came together:

Happy Girls!

Hi there!  Nathalie with you today bringing you a bit of inspiration using the beautiful “All The Good Things” papers.   I love butterflies, and been wanting to use them to bring a sense of movement to a page.  

I chose to document a picture of my daughter and younger sister in a tender embrace, and decided to use happy warm tones to bring the memory to life. 

The background of the page was created on a prepped/gessoed Foundation paper using acrylic paint –Coral Macaroon- and art crayons ( warm set only) .  

  

The acrylic paint was diluted, and added to the paper using the packaging technique.  While the paint was still wet on the paper, a bit of art crayon was added so that it combined with the acrylic paint.  All the excess paint was soaked with paper towel, and then a new coat of art crayons was applied using one of Vicki’s water brushes; this time however, the diluted acrylic paint was used to spread the art crayons on the page.   Once I was happy with the look of the background, it was set aside to dry.

To create the butterflies, I pulled papers from both the 7x10 and 12x12 paper pads that  had a lot of warm tones in them.  There is so much to chose from in the All The Good Things Collection!   Using a 1.5in butterfly punch I created die cuts from the papers and some white vellum, and decided to stitch them together along the centerline of the image.

Once the background was dried, I started to put together the layout.  First I backed the picture with some of the beautiful Floral paper from the collection, and mounted on foam adhesive.  The butterflies were then glued to the background so that they are floating around the picture

The title of the page was then added to the opposite side of the picture using a combination of the glitter foam thickers and the alphas from the collection.   A few rub ons and butterflies complete the small cluster.

Finally a few more clusters were created around the picture.   A small tag from the frame die cuts pack, a phrase sticker, and a watercolor sticker (all from the collection) form the top cluster of the picture.  For the bottom cluster, I used a combination of cardstock stickers  that matched the colors of the butterflies.   To finish the page, I added a few stamped sentiments using the roller stamp ( love that little roller!) and some gold ink, a few lines of journal, and some gold ink splatters.

Hi there!

It is time to show you one more project created with the beautiful December "Sonoma" kit from Citrus Twist Kits.   This time, I limited my color palette, and decided to add mixed media to create this simple and clean design.   

It all started by using some watercolor to create the soft background.  Then a few details were added using some gold modeling paste through a stencil.     The finished background was then stitched to some pieces of paper from the kit!

To keep the page simple, the clusters on the pictures were also limited to the same color palette, and built completely by layering ephemera and sticker pieces.

To complete the visual triangle, a small cluster of pieces and mixed media was added to the opposite side of the picture.    A thin line of gold ink drops and stencil lines connects this cluster to the picture.  Here is the final layout:

Love the soft feel of the page, and the layers of mixed media and papers created in this layout.

Joy to the World

Hello Nerds, and friends!

 It is time for a new entry of the Silhouette Savvy Series.   This is  a tutorial, that had been shown before, but since then the Silhouette software has been updated, and the new version does not perform all the commands from the previous version, so I want  to show you an updated version of the same tutorial.   So sit back, and enjoy the following video that will show you how to create the stitching guide followed by the completion of the layout:   

 As you can see in the video, the Silhouette software does not have a perforate edge command anymore, instead you have to tell the machine what to do by choosing the type of line you want it to create on the layout.       I used the cut-line to add the stitching that forms the background/title for this page.   This is a way to shorten the tedious work of poking holes along the entire perimeter of the design. 

 This title took a bit of time to stitch (6 strands of embroidery floss use), but the texture and look it brings is worth the time... Just put on some music or a movie on, and start stitching away.  

   Once all the stitching was completed, I accented all the details with some Shimmer watercolor (Prima Marketing Metallics Palette), and some embellishments from the Illustrated Faith Advent collection.  

 I kept the stitching as the second focal point of the page, and chose a b/w picture so that it pops from the layout,  A few paper layers and embellishments complete this page.
