Love You

Scrapbook Layout created for the Vicki Boutin DT  - LOVE YOU -

Hi there!
Nathalie with you today as we start a new month.   February is the month of LOVE, and we are hoping to provide you with some inspiration that will help you incorporate Vicki's products and collections into your documenting!  For today's project i combined a bit of VB art crayons, some of the glazes, stamps and stencils to create a page that celebrates the love amongst siblings.

The inspiration for the color combination of this page was based on the cut out (i used a cut file from Paige Evans and my Cameo to create the large die cut).  After creating last week's project, i had some leftover gold glaze which i used to create a texture piece of cardstock, and then diluted the leftovers to cover the die cut with a shimmering coat of glaze ( the cut was created on salmon colored cardstock).   The diluted glaze adds a bit of shimmer to the cut out.

The color of the background was chosen to make the cut out stand out.   I used some blue and navy art crayons (neutral and cool Art Crayon sets) to create the watercolor look on the background.  Once it dried, a few flowers were stamped using art crayons diluted with water and a bit of iridiscent glaze.   To bring a bit of contrast and texture to the background, a bit of iriiscent glaze was added using a palette knife through the butterfly stencil of the All The Good Things collection.

I pulled a picture of my littles (niece and nephew) from a few years back, and used  it to back one of the hearts in the cut out.   The papers used  to back the cut out come from the All The Good Things  and Field Notes collection as well as the 6x8 paper pad.  I chose to stay in the blush/pink tones for the lettters, and backed the second heart with vellum.

To makes sure the picture stands out in this page, as well as the background and cut out, i pulled a few stamped flowers and colored them with a combination of art crayons and iridiscent paste, so that they have a light touch of colour.

I layered the flowers in an "S" form around the picture and cut out so that they merge with the stamped images in the background.  A few more small details complete the page.  I have created a small video that will show you how this page came together:

This page is soft, simple and perfect to document the "new" love between siblings.  Remember to check VIcki's products, her paper collections and media line are perfect to document all those love memories.  If you have questions on how this came together, just contact me!

Always Grateful

Scrapbook Layout created for Vicki Boutin   - ALWAYS GRATEFUL -

Hello everyone!
Nathalie with you with the last post of Gratitude week here in the blog.   For this page,  I chose to go with a color combination that will create lots of contrast on the page thus bringing all the details and subject forward.

VB_ALWAYS GRATEFUL_Nathalie DeSousa

The background of this page was created using navy cardstock and gesso.   I pulled the masking flower stencil from VIcki's latest release and used gesso and the stencil brush to create the large flowers in the background, then brought the flower stencil from the All The Good Things collection to add the smaller flowers.

VB_ALWAYS GRATEFUL_Nathalie DeSousa-7

Next i mixed some iridescent glaze with art crayons ( in pink and blush tones) and a bit of water to create the colorful splatters that surround the flowers.   I made sure not to add too much water so that the splatters did not soak into the page, and stayed as a lose sphere on top of the paper.

While the background dried, I pulled papers in blush and pink tones from both Vicki's paper collections to back the cut out that forms the title.  Also, some matte acrylic gel was used to cover the word "always" followed by the fine gold glitter from Vicki's Mixology collection.

I kept the color scheme onto all the embellishments that create the clusters at the sides of the pictures.   Once again, i reached for stickers from both All the Good Things and Field Notes collections that had lots of pink and blush tones in it, as well as black and white watercolor stickers.

I love how this page turned out, the contrast and color combo are perfect to document some of the most important people in my life, the following video will show you how this page came together:

As always do not hesitate to contact me, if you have questions on how this was put together, and remember to join the VIcki Boutin Mixed Media community on Facebook to find lots of inspiration.

For all our US friends, we hope you have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!   We are so grateful for you all!

Hey, Hey Sunshine

Scrapbook Layout created for Vicki Boutin  -  HEY, HEY SUNSHINE,  Take Note  -

Hi there, Nathalie with you today with a new project created using Vicki’s mixed media line and the new Field Notes collection.   I am so in love with this collection, as it is so versatile;  I can easily create lovely pages with the paper designs, but it can easily also be used to create masculine pages in a very short amount of time.

As most of my pages work, I started with no plan in mind, the only starting point was the picture of my son.  I love the socks he is wearing in this photo, so I chose the colors of it to create the background for my page using layers of mixed media.

First a bit of stamping using the new Escape stamp set, then some yellow art crayon to create the watercolor background.   The blue art crayons were then used to create the stenciled circle look on the page using the scribbled circle stencil and the stencil brushes, and to finish, I repeated the stenciling technique using black art crayon, the script circle and a damped stencil brush.

Now it was time to embellish. First, I used some of the Field Notes collection and some foam adhesive to back and add layers behind the picture.  Next, I  used a combination of watercolor  and chipboard stickers and some of the puffy shapes to  create clusters around the picture.

I wanted to leave lots of white space on this page, so I chose to add the title to the left edge of the page at the same level of the picture.   First, I trimmed about a half an inch from the foundation paper,  cut a small slit at about half the length.  Then followed the same steps used to create the background, but this time I chose to form a triangle that pointed to the picture.  Once the mixed media dried, I backed the layer with a paper from the collection forming a pocket for my journaling tag and used the folded corners a placement for my title.

I hope you all inspired to check Vicki’s new Field Notes collection and  create something magical with it.   Well, that is all for me!  Remember to share your Vicki Boutin creations with us!  I look forward to seeing how you use her products.

XO

Hello Friend

Scrapbook Layout created for Vicki Boutin DT  -  HELLO FRIEND  -

Hi there!  Nathalie back with you today to show you a new project created using the super beautiful “FIELD NOTES” collection.   By now, hopefully, all of you have received the collection and are ready to work some awesome projects with it.   Well, for today’s project I was inspired by a rainbow, and all those pretty butterflies in the “Take Flight” paper.

I love Vicki’s art crayons, and to create the background of this piece, I decided to use three crayons from the  Neutral set only.  My thought was to create a simple background, so that both picture and butterflies will be the focus of the page.

Using a gessoed foundation as a base, I used the three crayons to give the background a very neutral watercolor background.  I tried at best to keep the mixed media to the center of the page!

Once the watercolor had dried, the new “Ink Spill” stencil was used  to add a bit more interest to the background.   Using the same crayons and the stencil brush, I started to add the circle watermark stencil impressions to the page.  I chose to move the stencil a bit so that I can chose where each of the circles was placed.

Before adding the butterflies to the page, I used one of the New Stamps to add a few details to the background. My idea was to color block the layout  in a rainbow fashion – so I pulled both ink , so that the butterflies would follow that path.

I attached the fussy cut butterflies to the page using a bit of glue and then adding a bit of stitching through the center of each of them.  Along the way I added  a few stickers from the Field Notes collection trying at best to color block the arrangement of butterflies and embellishments.

To add a bit of interest to the picture, I created a cluster at the top left corner of the picture using some watercolor stickers, ephemera pieces and some stamped images.

I am in love with the black puffy thickers in the collection, so I chose to add the title of this page using one of the phrases.   A few lines of journal and a few drops of gold color shine complete this page.

I love how this turned out.   The neutral background is packed with small details that allows the fussy cut butterflies to shine.  The following video will show you how this came together:

That is all for me today.  I hope you all are enjoying the new Field Notes collection, I cannot wait to see what you create with it!!!

Beautiful

Scrapbook Layout created for Vicki Boutin DT   -  BEAUTIFUL  -

Hi there!

Hope you are all enjoying the last days of Summer (here in the North hemisphere)!  Today, I want to share this new page created using Vicki Boutin's new Field Notes collection.   I received the entire collection (one of the perks of being part of her design team)a few weeks ago, and fell in love with all of it.  The colors, designs, stencils and stamps are gorgeous and so versatile, You are going to love it all!!

To create this page, I decided to use a resist technique using Matte Acrylic gel and Vicki's watercolor set.   I started by prepping one of the foundation papers with a coat of gesso.  Then used a mixture of white art crayon and matte acrylic gel to create the flower impressions on the paper.  You are going to want two sets of the stencils, as they can be used as masks, too!

Once the impressions were completely dried, i used Vicki's watercolors to create a large watercolor background surrounding the flowers.  I made sure that the watercolor covered the groves inside the flower impression.  Before the watercolor completely dried, I used a baby wipe to buff the surface of the stenciled flowers, so that the whiteness of the acrylic gel will appear amongst the watercolor background.

Once the watercolor completely dried, i used the color wheels and one of Vicki's new stamps to add branches/leaves to the background.  I made sure to color block the stamped images to the corresponding color of the flower background.  I set the background aside for a bit so that all the inks completely set before building the layout.

While the background dried, i decided to use all of Vicki's stamp and die sets to create die cuts for my pages.   Also, I went ahead and chose matted and layered the picture of our Goddaughter with papers from the Field Notes 12x12 paper pad.

Once the picture was set on the layout, all the new stamped die cuts were used to create this large clusters at two corners of the picture.  I chose to keep all the flower die cuts white, add color to the stamped leaves, and also to bring some of the colors in the picture in the embellishment that will be used in the page.

By keeping the die cuts white, the added embellishments, from Vicki's new collection , become the perfect complement to the picture being documented.

I kept the rest of the page very simple, and opted to use one of the new thicker phrase stickers as a title, and then added a few more embellishments that will complement the colors in the picture.  Here is the final layout:

I love how this turned out.  The background color and design are perfect, and all the colors the ideal combination to make the picture of this page shine!  Love the contrast in colors and textures featured in this page.  The following video will give you a more detailed look at the creative process of this page:

As always do not hesitate to leave me a comment if you have questions on how this came together.  Remember to check Vicki's new collection, "Field Notes"; I am sure you are going to love it!!!

Til next time!

This Day

Scrapbook Layout created for Vicki Boutin DT  - THIS DAY -

Hi there!

The new Vicki Boutin collection has started shipping to stores around the world.  I am lucky to have received the entire collection a few days ago, and all I am going to say it is gorgeous, colorful and so fun!  Of course, i had to create a page with it as soon as it arrived to share with you all the beauty of this collection.

I started with a gesso foundation page, and then used some warm art crayons to create a watercolor look on the layout's background.

Once it dried,  the stencil brush and the the same crayons were used to create the circle impressions on the background.  The new stencils are so versatile, and so easy to  use to add layers to any page.

Using some black ink, and Vicki's new stamp set, i added details to the background.Once again the stamp was used to add a layer to the background.   The final background is the perfect starting point for the beautiful designs of the new FIELD NOTES collection.

I used the floral paper in the 12x12 paper pad to fussy cut a few of the images, so that i can cluster and layer them around the picture.

The B-sides of the 12x12 paper pad are the glorious complement to the fussy cut florals of this collection!  I used a few of the papers to layer behind the pictures and then set them in place on the page,

Love the new washi tapes included in this collection.  I have added a few pieces from it as bottom layers behind the pictures, and then used the floral images, puffy stickers, watercolor stickers and ephemera to complemet the pictures.

To finish this page, i added a simple title using the new Thickers that are included in this collection.  They are thin and black and perfect for layering!  Here is the final layout:

LOVE LOVE how this turned out!  the colors of the fussy cut images along with the mixed media background are the perfect combination.   Honestly, make sure you check and pick up Vicki's new Field Notes collection, it truly is gorgeous!!!
