Altenew December 2018 Markers/Embellishment Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

 Hi there!

Welcome to the ALTENEW December 2018 Markers/Embellishments Release Blog Hop!   You are arriving from Norine's blog.

I am always floored when Altenew invites me to be part of their release blogs, as i get to play with their beautiful new releases and then show you how fun they are.  Well this time, I was sent the new Alcohol markers - Set E- and the Colorless Blender, and it was love at the first swatch.

The dual tip of the markers make them a perfect tool to color and shade your stamps, dies, etc.  For the first project, I decided to use the Leaf Canopy stamp an embossed it with gold powder on vellum. then used the green tones of the Altenew Marker set E to color vellum.

Since the markers are alcohol based, they go like butter on vellum without creating the curl that water produces on it.   I used the Colorless Blender marker to help me move the ink around the leaves, and then created this simple card.  Love the softness of the color vellum on the white card.   Imagine all the possibilities!

Now let me show you how i used the rest of the colors in the Marker set E can create a very impactful page that combines some of the beautiful Altenew Stamps, Dies, Stencils and Inks in one page.

For this page  i chose to color the stamp images of the Perfectly Perfect florals with the markers in the E set.  This time i decidede to mix some of the  grey marker tones to soften the orange tones of the flowers.   All those details in the flowers were created using just the markers in the set.  Like I said, Oh, the Possibilities!  Here is a small video that shows you how this page came together:

Love how this layout turned out, definitely one of my favorites created to-date using Altenew products.  The color, the florals, the frames, oh just so perfect for the picture of my daughter's first day of grade 11.

Make sure you stop by the Altenew shop to check the other set of Alcohol markers being released, as well as all the new embellishments.  So much to chose from, and now to the fun part of this post, the

December is Here!

Hi there!

It is December 1st, the Jolliest of all the months has just started, which means lots of festivities (birthdays in our home), and all the happy and not so shining moments are about to start.  I hope to be able to capture and doument all those moments in my Traveler's Notebook journal, but this year thanks to my friend Vicki, I will also be working on a picture challenge, so be prepared to be a sort of December daily type album to go along with this one (crazy you said!, i KNOW!!!)

I had already created my title and intention page for my TN, i used mainly the CItrus Twist Kits Christmas Stories kits and stamp for this ( even the cut files are included in this kit).  But since my Journal is usually the one that does most of the work, i decided to work on stories for the Seasons as they happened, so i want to share one of them with you today.

My first story is all about my kids setting up the Christmas tree this year.   I received a card a few years ago that had a gate opening, and the idea stuck on my head, so i decided to use it in this entry.

This page was built with pieces from the Citrus Twist Kits Christmas stories kit from this year,  I was lucky enough to snatch one and the add ons before they sold out. The papers and embellishments come from the Merry Days collection from Crate Paper.

Like I mentioned the idea of the gatefold card stayed with me, and i decided to play with it to create a similar one for my TN.  I am using a soft parchment paper as the base, and then cut  the tree from the Bright and Cozy paper from Pebbles.  I used the negative parts of the cut to create the tree in the inside of the fold and then added some pictures there.

And now i am off to work on documenting today's picture on my VB album., so hopefully I will get to jump in to show you how it also progresses.

Have a blessed day!

Merry - Altered art-

 Hi  there!
It is starting to feel and look a lot like Christmas, and what better way to celebrate the beginning of the season than to share cut files! For the next 12 days, JustNick Studio will be giving a cut file a day for free!  So, let's get started!

Today's free cut file is "Build a Poinsetta", and it is the perfect cut file to create beautiful layouts and cards, but how about a decor piece for your home, well...

Every few years we change the color of the Christmas tree decorations, and this year our daughter decided the colors: blush, white and blue-gray.   The new colors mean that our Christmas decorations also have to be revamped a bit, so i decided to create this piece to for our home.

I pulled a Jillibean embroidery hoop and painted to match our wood pieces.  While the paint dried, i used today's free cut file, "Build a Poinsetta" to cut the pieces for the flowers from papers that matched the tones of the tree ornaments.  A bit of Vicki Boutin Art Crayon helps to add the shading to the petals, while a bone folder helped to create the movement of the flowers and leaves.  To finish each flower, I added a few french knots to the center of each flower.

To add the sentiment to the hoop, i decided to pull the  Merry and Bright cut file and used only the "merry" word of it to create the stitched sentiment on the hoop.

To assemble the piece, i added some small branches created using a soon-to-be-released "Holiday Boughs" cut file, and then glued all the pieces to the hoop.  I added a piece of ribbon to the top of the hoop, so that the piece can also be hung from the tree or around our home.  Just love how this turned out!!!
