On The Go - Junque Journal

Junque Journal entry for Vicki Boutin DT  - ON THE GO -

Hi there!  It has been a while since I shared a new entry of my Junque Journal.  But to be honest it is my first time working with this format, and I love it!  My approach is that of a mix between art journal and scrapbook page.  So with that being said, let me show you how I created this entry:

For this entry, I am using one of the Junque Journal’s Mixed Media paper inserts, and   gesso just the inside of the insert.

I wanted to create a heart made up of blocks, so I pulled a cut file from JustNick Studio, and cut it from a foundation paper.  I used this heart as a guideline when creating the background.   Using a pencil, I lightly marked the corners of the heart on the insert, and then used a stencil brush, the script stencil, and art crayons to add the first layer to the background.  Once I was happy with the inside heart, I used a baby wipe to clean up the stencil on the cover flap of the insert, so that I can have a unified idea throughout the project.

Next, using the heart cut out as a stencil, I dragged Matte Acrylic gel on top of the stenciled script background, and set it aside to dry completely.

Once the gel dried completely, a baby wipe was used to take away some of the extra art crayon that surrounds the stenciled heart.  The baby wipe does not completely take the color away, but it does soften the color and definition of the script. Then this was set aside to dry.

Now it is time to add a bit of color to the page, so I diluted Blue Hawaiian, and Juicy Pear acrylic pop paints with water, and used a brayer to move the color around the insert.  I chose to keep most of the blue to the side where the heart is placed.    Once the paint was on, I used a baby wipe to clean the paint off the heart’s blocks, so that the paint only rests on the groves between the blocks.

Once the paint dried completely, I used Vicki’s markers to add extra definition and shading around the cut out.  This makes the heart details just pop from the page.

To finish the inside of the insert, the same cut out was used to add another heart to the inside flap of the insert.   This time, I used a bit of art crayon and the stencil brush to create the design in the flap.

Now that the entire inside of the insert was completed, I set it aside to dry and set for just a little bit before tackling the front flap of this insert.  Got to love all the texture and colors of the inside part of this entry.

I kept the front flap pretty simple, so first I added some stamping to the already stenciled script background.    The circle stamp and the brushstroke phrases in the set were added to the paper using the cool wheel ink set.

Next, I used art crayons and the stencil brush to add color to the cut out, trimmed to fit the flap, and then used glue to attach it to the stamped page.   The title of the project was then added using the Chipboard alpha and glitter foam thickers from the All the Good Things collection.

To finish this page, I used ephemera and rub ons to add some interest to the inside of the insert’s flap.   I also added my lines of journal here.

Next I used some ephemera and frames to add some interest to the picture before gluing it complete to the blocked heart.   A combination of cardstock and watercolor stickers create a small cluster at the bottom of the picture which is enough to complete this page.
I honestly started this page with no plan in mind, just to play with mediums, and ended up with a pretty cool looking page.  The following video will give you a better look at how this was created.

I hope this inspires you to pull your Vicki Boutin’s products and play with them.   Sometimes inspiration just comes when you start playing with the mediums.
As always let me know if you have questions on how this came together, and don’t forget to pick up Vicki’s products.  They are amazing!

You Are The Best

Junque Journal Entry for Vicki Boutin DT  - YOU ARE THE BEST -

Hello friends and fans!   Nathalie with you today to bring you a bit of inspiration using one of the most addictive little books,  my Junque Journal.   This time I combined this format with a bit of the new watercolor set to create a colorful double spread for my journal.

Have I mentioned I love watercolor, and cannot get enough of  the new watercolor set and brushes.   These two are the ideal for creating those beautiful and rainbow-like backgrounds, and that was the inspiration for this page.

For this entry, I pulled two pages of the watercolor paper inserts for the junque journal. And then added pea size (or smaller) amounts of watercolor in rainbow colors to a palette (this one has a lid, and was purchased at my local Dollar store).   I made sure to add some water to each color so that they would not dry on the palette.

To create the  background, I just started adding color to the page along with some water, so that the color will disperser on the page.  My idea was to have the colors mingle at the edges thus creating a true soft watercolor.

Once the rainbow was created on the pages,  I left it aside to dry completely, and started to work on the embellishments for this page.

The circle stamp and die set from the latest release were used to cut circles from different papers from the 12x12 and 7x10 paper pads.   I wanted to add a rainbow of color to the page using the collection papers.

Before gluing the papers together, I used the starburst circle, and gold ink to add a bit of extra interest to the background.     The circles were glued to the page with glue and foam adhesive -this will help with adding dimension and interest to the page.

I chose to add my picture on the cool side of the project.  Just a few extra decorations is all that it is needed to bring the eye of the viewer to the picture featured in this page.

As I moved onto the second page of the spread, the circles were placed and cut so that they are symmetrical on both  pages.  I continued adding some of  the stamped images and the circles until I had exhausted all the colors of the rainbow.

Now to decorate the page, I chose to color block the decorations.   In some cases, the paper clips were trimmed so that they could be used as ephemera, and then in between some of the circles.  The rest of the décor comes from the watercolor stickers pages.   I simply placed them on the page, and then used one the water brushes and the left over watercolor in the palette to add the respective color to the sticker.

The title was the last thing added to this page.  And then once again, I reached for one of the Watercolor stickers, and the palette to match the color of the title to the page.
Can I say that I love how this page came out!!, and that it inspired the next post (available on my blog).

My little junque journal is slowly becoming colorful, and the perfect place to practice some techniques in a smaller scale before putting them to work on my scrapbook pages.   Here is video that shows you a more in depth look on how these pages were put together.

Thanks for stopping by, and remember to check Vicki’s All the Good Things for all the materials used in this post.  Each medium, paper and embellishment are so easy to work with, and create one of a kind projects.

Junque Journal

Hi there!  Today, I want to share with you all a bit of my new obsession,  my “Junque Journal”.   This little gem is the perfect place to get inky, practice techniques, create art journal pages, etc.   I am addicted to the format, and the versatility of the it, and this time I wanted to combine some scrapbooking and art journaling in one single page.

To create this page, the entire inside of a Mixed Media insert was primed with gesso.   Then using the blending sponge, a soft background of acrylic paint (Daiquiri Ice, and Blue Hawaiian) was created by adding the paint in soft circular motion to the page, so as to resemble clouds.

Since the inspiration for the page came from circles found in a recent selfie, I chose to add a few circles to the page using the Cool set Ink Palette, and Vicki’s new Stamp set.   Most of the stamped images were placed on the right hand side of the page.

To continue with the circle motif of the page,  I chose to add some art crayon to the left hand side of the page.   The new stencil brush is so easy to work with, and provides the right amount of color, and definition of an image, especially when using it to transfer color through a stencil.

The circle design of the stencil contrasts and combines seamlessly with the paint background,  but the page also needed some texture.  For this, and using one of the citcle   stamps, Acrylic Matte gel was stamped to the page followed by medium gold glitter.   All the shine and texture completes the background.

A small frame –created with the 7x10  paper pad- and a piece of gold tissue  frame and serve as layers behind the picture.    A few embellishments just add the right sentiment and feel in the page.

Now that the inside of the page has been created, it is time to focus on the front/fold piece of the page.   Firstly , it was covered with a piece of paper from the 7x10 paper pad  -a bit of Acrylic Mat Gel serves as glue for this purpose- followed by a few pieces of ephemera and a series of butterfly stamps in the colors found in the inside of the page.

Oh!  I am loving the possibilities the Junque Journal is presenting.   It is so versatile, and the perfect place to get inspired.   That is all for me today!  Remember to check all of  Vicki’s mediums and “All The Good Things “ collection.   Everything is gorgeous!     If you would like to see how this page came together, the following video will give you a more in depth look on how this page came together:

Junque Journal - Vicki Boutin DT

Hi there!
Nathalie with you today bringing you a look at one of my newer color adventures of 2018:  My Junque Journal.

I have always been curious about these little gems, and now that I get to work with them, I can say they can quickly become very addicting.   I want to show you what  I am doing to my Art Junk Journal using  Vicki’s All The Good Things collection and mediums.

I decoupaged the cover of the journal usingacrylic matte gel, and a piece of paper from the 12x12  All the Good Things collection paper pad.  Once the medium had dried, a bit of gesso was added with a brush as to create a soft shadow/haze on the page.

Next, it was time to embellish  -since the background reminded me of a graffiti wall- I chose to add  some colour using the butterfly stencil,  the stencil brushes and some art crayons.  Colors were placed in order as to form a sort of rainbow;  this took no time as application of color with the brushes is so easy and rapid.  To finish, a bit of gold glaze was added through the scribbled lines stencil, and then the word “ARTE”  (Art in Spanish) was added  to complete the look.

But since we are talking about  covers, I also went ahead and created the cover page of my journal.     It all started as a few lines of the script stamp were added to the bottom corner of the page.  To create a distress look to the page,  a bit of gesso was added so that it created a few groves on the page.

The inspiration for the colors was a sunset, so a few lines of Art crayons were scribbled on the page;  a baby wipe was used to diffuse the color on the page.   The little grooves of gesso are what create those deeper shaded areas in the page.

To maximize the color in this page, the entire page was sealed with Acrylic matte gel, and a thick brush (this will add more texture to the page).   Then the art crayon process was repeated once again. To finish the page, a few Sunburst circles were added using gold ink, followed by a sentiment and a few butterflies.

I love how this page came together! And I can easily say this little journal may be one of my newest addictions.  Here is a more in depth look of how this page came together:

I hope you are all inspired to check out the amazing All The Good Things collection.  The papers are colorful, and all the mediums are a dream to work with.  Let me know if you have any questions on how this came together.

Take care,
