My Summer Journal

Traveler's Notebook Spread created for Clique Kits  - MY  SUMMER JOURNAL -

Hi there!

Today marks my last day as part of the Clique Kits design team.   The past year has been one of the greatest experiences, creative wise.   And i will be forever thankful to Gia, Erica, Lacey and Nicole for having invited me to be part of  the team.  LOVE u ladies!!

Today is pep rally day for the Sundance kit!, which means we get to share with you all what we have been working on with the beautiful Sundance Kit.   Since I got the TN kit this month, I chose to document a picture of one of our car rides.  I started with the idea of creating a hybrid page, so I used Photoshop to create the journal page, by adding one of the ck printables as the letterhead of the page.

Next I typed up the journal lines, and added the sticker from the Wish You Were Here collection at the bottom of the page.   This was then glued to a piece of paper from the Creekside collection that had been trimmed to fit the TN's page.

For the picture, I went bold, and used Photoshop to edit, and add an Ali Edwards Digital Stamp on it.   I made sure to print the page to fit the TN size, and glued it to the notebook,   A little bit of foam adhesive adds a bit of lift to the little ephemera piece on the page.  Here is the completed spread:

I love how simple and bold this page is,  Sometimes all you need is a story, and a bit of editing to complete the page.  Remember to check Clique Kits and  instagram to see what the DT, and subscribers have been creating with this month's  Sundance Kit.

Let me know if you have questions on how this came together.

See you all soon!

Scrapbook Layout created for Simple Stories  - THANKFUL -

For the second project, I wanted to focus on using the soft patterns of the collection to create a very feminine and simple page about this year's Mother's Day portrait  ( I am so glad i save this picture for the right collection!)

I wanted to keep the page clean and simple, so I reached for some white cardstock for the background of the page.  Then cut two triangles, and two strips from the "CHOOSE HAPPY" paper, and glued them onto the white cardstock making sure to show the b side of the paper  in the strips .  A bit of machine stitching secures is all together to the cardstock.

All the soft patterns in the paper are perfect for recreating flowers on a layout.  For these, I used a steel die to cut the  petals, and a JustNick cut file to create the leaves for the page, and cut them all from the 6x8 paper pad. Then just layer the petals together and glued a small enamel dot from the Faith collection to the center of each flower.

Once all the flowers were ready to glue, then assembly on the page started.   I glued the picture onto the bottom corner the page, and added two large  clusters of flowers, and stems to  the two corners that run along the paper triangle.

Then added a few pieces of ephemera, and stickers around the  flower clusters.   The pop of black, white, and gold in the pieces make the flowers softer, and bring out the details in each of them.

Finally, I wanted to bring a bit of shine to this page, and what better place than to create a foiled title for this page.  Using the Deco Foil PeelnStick toner sheet, and one of the Simple Stories  Silhouette store cut files, i created the  title for the page.  The paper was so easy to use in the Cameo machine!
Then a bit of gold foil, and some heat from the laminator bring the title to life.

The simplicity of the page is not lost with the soft flowers and stems that decorate the page.   The dimension created on each of the flowers is perfect to bring the patterns on the papers to life, and keep the focus on the picture.   I really love the final look of the page!

I hope you are all inspire to use the patterns, colors and foiled details in the  Simple Stories BEAUTIFUL collection.  It is one of my favorite Simple Stories to date, and i am sure you will also fall in love with it!  Remember i am a comment away if you have any questions on how this came together.

See you all soon!

Scrapbook Layout created for Simple Stories  - SHINE -

I am up on the Simple Stories blog with two new projects using the new and gorgeous, "BEAUTIFUL" collection.  Here is the first project:

You know that feeling when you see a patterned paper, and suddenly the entire layout comes to mind, picture and all!   This is what happened as soon as i saw the "Shine Bright" paper from the Beautiful collection. For starters the name of the paper, and all the gold foil gave me the idea to create a star filled page.

Next i wanted to incorporate one of my favorite and most used techniques, "a large stitched title".   For this i used one  of the Simple Stories' Silhouette Store designs to cut the large "SHINE"  word from one of the papers from the High Style paper pad.  It was then backed with the Shine Bright paper, and then stitched together with pink and gold embroidery thread.

Once the stitching was completed, then I trimmed the page, and stitched on a slant to another of the High Style papers from the pad (I love that all these papers combine seamlessly), and attached the picture to the bottom of the page.

Using the same cut file, a lots of stars were created from different papers from the collection (all the leftover pieces from previous projects), and these were scattered around the page, so that they look as exploding from the bottom corner of  the page.

Using pieces from all the embellishment add ons, small clusters were created along the page, so that they form a visual triangle, and bring attention to the picture, and title of the page.  Here is the final

I love the combination of colors, dimension, and texture in this page.   It came together in a heart beat (though the stitching took some time), and the end result is just worthy of the title.

As always let me know if you have any questions on how this came together!

See you in the next post!

My Personal Journal

Traveler's Notebook layout created for Scrapbook Nerd  - MY PERSONAL JOURNAL -

Hello there!

I hope you all are enjoying Summer's last hooray!

Today, Scrapbook Nerd is sharing a new sketch and inspiration for all its followers.   I am not that great with sketches, though they are a good starting point when creating a new layout.  But I like challenges, and set to use it to create a spread on my TN, instead.

This is sketch #41, and it suited the TN format rather easily.  I chose to rotate the sketch completely, and be as true to the design as possible.  Here is my take on the sketch:

I used Fancy Pants Designs'  Dream Big collection, as well as some pieces from the Golden Days collection to add the details on this layout.   First, I created a film strip on Lightroom to house the pictures being documented.

Next attached a 6x6 paper to the TN insert, and used  stickers from the collections to create small clusters just like the ones shown in the sketch.

Finally, I added my journal lines to a tag from the Golden days collection, and just added a few small stickers around it to complete the page.

It was easy to work with this sketch on my TN, and the page came together in no time.  I hope you visit the Scrapbook Nerd blog to see what this sketch inspired some of the members to create.  Remember i am a comment away if you need any assistance.

See you all soon!!

Materials Used:
Fancy Pants Designs :
- Dream Big collection: 6x6 paper pad, puffy stickers, cork stickers, sentiment stickers
- Golden Days collection:  Tags, puffy stickers.

Sweet Charm

Scrapbook Layout -  Sweet Charm

a close up of the layout details

Hello everyone!,

I love cut files, and Scrapbook Nerd has just released a new cut file, "X to my O", designed by the Cut Shoppe.   Since I can resist using them, I chose to create a sample to go along with the published cut file image.

To start this layout, I traced the cut file, and set the machine to perforate the XO in the design (i removed the circle out of the design for  the moment.   I then used embroidery floss to complete the background of the page...

the colors match those in MME's On Trend 2 collection

I chose to cut  the circle out of another patterned paper, making sure to shrink it a bit.  Using foam adhesive squares, I attached it to the stitched background.

a close up to the cluster on the picture

Since there is a lot of color on the page, i picked to use a black and white picture of my niece on her 8th birthday, and anchored it to the lower right side of  the page. I added  a few clusters around the picture (all materials come from the same collection).

For the title, I picked the mirror stickers from the collection and placed them on the opposite side diagonally to the picture.

Finally I added some small details (enamel dots) and my journal lines along the page.  Using a black fine marker, I create a small border along the edge of the circle, as to give the impression of stitching-.  Here is the final layout:

I am so happy with the results, and have started finding ideas on how to use the cut file differently.  Do not forget to stop by the Scrapbook Nerd Store to pick up your FREE copy of the cut file,  just follow this link.

As always let me know if you have any questions about the layout.

See you soon!!

My Travel Journal

Traveler's Notebook Spread created for Clique Kits -  MY TRAVEL JOURNAL -

Hello there!

It is challenge time over at Clique Kits.   And this month it is all about washi tape, and the  fun sketch by Kristine Davidson.

I am not big on sketches, though they are helpful and handy when your mojo is low,  but i thought this can easily be adapted to a TN, and could fill the washi challenge easily, too.

I started by covering one of the sides of the TN with the Fancy Pants  papers from the kit, then backed the picture with one of the cards from the Wish You Were  Here collection, which is featured in this month's TN kit.   I tried to follow the sketch, so I trimmed the picture to match the ratio of the ones shown in the sketch.

To finish this side of the sketch, i added a cluster to the lower corner of the page made up of ephemera pieces, this month's exclusive cut printables, and a washi tape heart.

Now it was time to complete the other side of the spread, and i chose to add the washi tape lines instead of journal lines to the top corner of the page.   I think i was true to the design in this side of the page, but i had to alter the sketch a bit, since i added my journal lines where the 3rd picture was located.  Here is the final page:

It was so easy to use the sketch to come up with this TN spread.   I think if you apply the principals of scrapbooking on a mini format, then you are good to go!

To check more details on this month's challenge, stop by the Clique kits blog, there is a prize for a lucky entry at the end of the month.  As always, leave me a comment if you have any questions on how this came together.

Take care!

Hey There

Scrapbook Layout created for JustNick Studio  - HEY THERE -

Hello there!
Nathalie here with a new layout that is all about my teenage son!.  I love my kids, but i find that it is easier to document my daughter, so this time,  I chose to create a page that combines the Positive One and Positive 3 Backgrounds to document my boy!

I wanted something that will bring the eye to the picture, and at the same time will be graphic and simple.   The Positive One and Positive Three backgrounds were perfect for what i had in mind, even when the design changed a bit along the way.

Firstly, I isolated a single cross from both the files.  Then used the cross from the Positive One file to sketch some crosses on half of the page, and used the same design  (in three different sizes) to cut some crosses from vellum.  I proceeded to poke holes in the sketched designs, and used thread to back stitch the designs.

Next i used the Positive 3 cut file's isolated cross to cut some designs out of the papers from the Boys Front collection from Pinkfresh Studio.  Once everything was cut, then a bit of foam adhesive was used to attach the crosses just to half of the page, as if they all were leading to the picture.

After the graphic background, just a few more details around the picture complete the page.

I love the final look of the page, along with the contrast in dimension, and it all was created by using the simple designs of the two cut files.   That is why i love cut files!!!

Remember to check the JustNick store for these, and all the rest of cut files available.  All the designs are so versatile, and you can easily create unique pages with them.  I am always a comment away, if you have a question on how this came together.

See you all around!
